A Beginners Guide to Writing a Website:

While there are many ways to write a website and many on-line guides to help in this process, the following are the steps that I would recommend while writing the text and designing the images for a website:

1) Choose a general visual appearance that you would like for your website.

This visual appearance may be based on websites you like, or I can suggest attractive website designs for counsellors and therapists.

2) Write down the title of each page that you would like on your website (also known as the main navigation menu):

These titles should be short and simple, such as “About Me”, “Specialities”, “Services”, “Contact Me” and so forth.

3) Add any subpages that you would like to branch off from your main pages.

As an example, if “Services” is a main page on your Counselling site, you might like “Individual Counselling” or “Couples Counselling” as sub-headings.

4) Write the text for each page:

Typically this text should be short, simple and concise. It should include a main heading as well at least 3 to 4 paragraphs of text. Use simple language and include formatting such as bulleted or numbered lists.

5) Choose images for each page:

You might prefer to use your own images or include stock photography photos. See my FAQ section for more information on this.

6) Consider if you want any any special areas on your page, such as text boxes or sidebars. Add any text or images you want on these areas.

Often websites can be made far more attractive using these custom areas, so dont forget to consider using them. If you are unsure, feel free to ask me!

The above six steps are the main steps in writing a website. Once you have done them, you can email me your text and images (or instructions for me to find images or text for you) and I can assemble it into a great looking website!
